I have finally arrived in Taiwan. I've pretty much settled into my first host family's apartment. So far my major first impression of Taiwan is that it is HOT!!! But the country is really pretty and people are pretty nice and friendly. Yesterday, I went with my host sister and her boyfriend to Danshui (or Tamshui as it's written on the MRT line). It's a seaside district in New Taipei City, and is accesible by the MRT (subway). It was crowded, but then again, it was the weekend, so everybody probably thought it would be a fun place to go. And it was, lots of little trinket shops (little wonderful treasure finds that i'll explore later), and street food. I tried some of the street food, some stinky tofu. It was...different. It was okay, but i think it's something of an aquired taste, so i'll keep trying it, and see if I like it. The city's also known for being the home of a Canadian missionary, George Mackay, who established the first hospitals of Western medicine, and formal education facilities. All in all, Danshui is a fun little cute day trip from Taipei!

Explaining the name of this Blog

Okay, some people have asked me, if you've called your blog The Search for Jackie Chan's son, than why are there no pictures of him on the site?? Why are there pictures of other Asian guys?? Well, firstly, the title's something of a joke, I'm not actually going all the way to Taiwan to look for Jackie Chan's son. I wanted a quirky name, and one of my friends suggested to me, while why don't you name it The Search for Jackie Chan's son? (We were talking about him, the trip, and the blog). Secondly, those other guys are guys who I like, and who I would reeeeaaaaalllly like to see when I'm in Taiwan (if they come), so that's why I have pictures of them.

Some little extra info on the mission

Okay, just some stuff I forgot to say. I'm going on a Rotary Youth Exchange, which means I'm sponsored for the exchange by a Rotary District here in Canada (District 7070 to be precise), and I'll be hosted by a Rotary District in Taiwan. They're are responsible for me while I'm over there, I guess you could call them my guardians. Anyway, last I checked our Facebook group, there's about 120 (or maybe more...) kids who are going to Taiwan for a Rotary Youth Exchange, and my host District in Taiwan will be hosting about 35-40 kids from all over the world. While I'm there, like I said, I go to high school, learn the language, and culture, etc. Okay, I think that's it. See y'all soon. Allison out.

Mission Start: Pre-arrival, Sightings:0

Okay, so right now I am still in Canada, I have not arrived in Taiwan, therefore I have not seen Jackie Chan's son......yet. However, I would like to make it clear, that I'm not just looking for Jackie Chan's son. There are a host of other Asian celebrities that I'll be looking for as well, since I'm a fan of K-pop and J-pop, I'll be looking for their stars as well. So, just to make everything clear, if I wasn't in the video, my name is Allison, and I am from Toronto, Canada. I'll be going to Taiwan as an exchange student, where I will be going to high school, and living with about three different families. I'll be living in Taipei, which is the capital of Taiwan, and I expect that the following year will be super awesome!!! So I'll see y'all soon, most likely when I've arrived on the beautiful island of Taiwan!!!
